How much would you say that your husband plays with your children per day?

Of course it varies but since we killed the TV, we have a lot more "real" time. We haven’t had TV now in three years. On a busy day he may only get an hour or two but on most days it is 3, 4, 5 or on rare nights like tonight, over six hours of solid play.

We all went to the playground, then the grocery store where he played with our son while I shopped, then,d two of them played, monster, then daddy made a giant pillow fort and tunnel. There were karate fights, shark battles and all sorts of "boy" play.

He plays in ways that I just wouldn’t think of.

I have 2 kids (4 & 6) and we have TV in our house. They can watch up to 2 hours a day (but rarely do) and we’re just starting to make our 6 year old watch some of the news. My husband works all day, but when he gets home he usually spends a good 2 hours with the children. On Saturday we go on family trips so he spends all day with them.

Congratulations on getting rid of the TV!! Whenever my husband and I start squabbling we remove the TV for a few weeks so we spend more time together on our marriage and with our son. It always improves things. :)

It does vary but my husband is usually at work between 7:00am and 5:00pm so he only sees his son (4 years old) for a couple of hours before bed during weekdays. My hubby likes to have some downtime watching telly or listening to an audio book for half an hour or so when he gets home from work and then he will spend time with his son while I cook dinner. After dinner he helps out with baths, story time and putting him to bed.

On the weekends we all do the grocery shop together and whatever else needs doing. They don’t play much, as such together but they always seem content to be in one another’s company and like to talk a lot. :)

During his work days he doesn’t get to play at all. He is awake for 30 minutes before he leaves and when he gets home we are sleeping. By the time we wake up he is then sleeping.

During his days off "playing" consists of golfing and/or fishing. Usually there is some yard work in there too (now that is quality time). I’m the one who plays like a little kid, I suppose because I’m the one who needs to keep him entertained throughout the day.

I think dads are just better at playing with kids then some of us moms mostly because we are so exhausted from meeting just their basic needs that it pretty much sucks up all of our energy. Granted when the hubs has to work mornings I almost always take my DD out to do something fun with a friend or our playgroup but even then it’s not really me playing WITH her…it’s her friends entertaining her. On average the hubs has 2-3 days/week that he doesn’t work the morning shift and he always takes our oldest DD out to play usually at the pool. When he has a day off we spend it together as a family but even then he does most of the playing. It makes me love him even more that he is a hands-on Daddy with our kids and not one that demands he have alone time. It’s definitely a team effort giving our girls the best lives we can possible give them with having two parents that share responsibilities in raising them.
